2010–ongoing
In 2010/2011 Emma Smith undertook a one year fellowship in the context of the Communal Knowledge programme. During this time she worked on a commission for a new work, Playback, exhibited at The Showroom in 2011, and on Public Relations, a series of public discussions on questions leading out of her practice.
The discourse stimulated by Public Relations led Smith to develop a body of research that explores the nature and ethics of personal and institutional relationships in practice and the public realm.
A resulting publication by Smith titled Practice of Place will be published by Bedford Press in 2015.
This project is commissioned as part of Communal Knowledge which is supported by The Paul Hamlyn Foundation, The John Lyon's Charitable Trust, Westminster Arts and The Showroom Supporters Scheme.
Co-founder and co-director of art collective Delta Arts Smith is an artist with a social practice that is both research and production-based and responds to site-specific issues.
