This series of thirty new watercolours by artist Navine G. Dossos make use of the stencils created for the production and installation of her exhibition at The Showroom in 2019, based on the logos used to represent the Prevent programme across the UK.

All proceeds from this series continue to contribute to the funding of TINA – There Is No Alternative and forthcoming programming, which builds upon and extends the research of Dossos' exhibition There Is No Alternative at The Showroom in 2019.

Overlaid on top of the original stencils are new logos collected during more recent research in 2020 looking at the similarity of visual language between Prevent and the Covid-19 pandemic; sharing symbols of protection, care, but also threat, vigilance and resistance to contamination. Much of this visual language of Covid is shared with Anti-terrorism. The work invites consideration of the crossovers between these rhetorical approaches.

All proceeds from the series will contribute towards funding the production of a new publication, co-published by The Showroom and Chateau International, which builds upon and extends the research of There Is No Alternative. The publication takes as a starting point Dossos’ ongoing research into the complex context of the UK government’s development of pre-crime and surveillance policies, in particular Prevent, questioning the politics of representation and the positioning of care that the strategies around those policies generate.

Texts in the book include new essays by Navine G. Dossos and Rob Faure Walker, alongside contributing writers who have engaged in written dialogues, Dr Sadia Habib, Hassan Vawda, Rachel Coldicutt, Tarek Younis, Shezana Hafiz and Azfar Shafi from advocacy organisation CAGE, and William Skeaping from Extinction Rebellion. The book is edited by Rob Faure-Walker & designed by Mark Hurrel.

Between January–June 2021, in parallel to the Independent Review of Prevent, a digitally distributed PDF will act as a tool for soliciting further public feedback; reinforcing and extending the participatory praxis embedded in the project and enabling new perspectives to be incorporated within the final published book.
