2014–2015
A collaborative project with Dutch artist Wendelien van Oldenborgh, commissioned within the frameworks of Communal Knowledge and How to work together.
The first phase of the project took place in 2014 – work with local hip hop artists Reveal and Owls to produce a music video for Owls’ track ‘Conspiracy’, related to his involvement in the London riots.
This process fed into the concept for a major new film commission by van Oldenborgh. The artist planned the film in late 2014–early 2015 and shot it over two days in the Edgware Road area in March 2015.
The Showroom presented van Oldenborgh's film at her first solo exhibition in London, held between 29 April – 21 June 2015.
This project was commissioned within the frameworks of Communal Knowledge and How to work together.
It is supported by Mondriaan Fund, The Embassy of The Netherlands, and How to work together funders.
How to work together is a shared programme of contemporary art commissioning and research devised by The Showroom, Studio Voltaire and Chisenhale Gallery. It is supported by a capacity building and match funding grant from Arts Council England through Catalyst Arts, with additional funding in the second year from Bloomberg, Jerwood Charitable Foundation and the How to work together Artist Commissions Production Fund.
Based in Rotterdam, van Oldenborgh has recently been awarded the prestigious Dr AH Heineken Prize for Art and is currently spending a year in Berlin on a DAAD residency.
