Mophradat is a non-profit contemporary arts organisation working internationally and across disciplines to create diverse opportunities for professional Arab artists. Since 2004, their grants program has supported over 700 artists and arts organisations from the region.
The Consortium Commissions is an innovative model for co-commissioning art projects by emerging artists from the Arab world initiated by Mophradat. Every two years Mophradat creates a network of collaborating partner museums, art centers, theaters, and festivals around the world, that collectively select, produce, and exhibit ambitious new artworks by emerging artists from the Arab world. Mophradat provides each selected artist with a grant to cover the production of their new project, and the artist’s work is presented at two of the prestigious institutional partners, who curate and fully finance the exhibitions and performances. This initiative creates an avenue for production outside of commercial interests or state patronage, while strengthening collaboration between existing non-profit arts organisations. The artists are selected on the basis of the artistic merit of solicited project proposals after a rigorous nomination process from within the project’s partner network.
In 2021, The Showroom will exhibit artist filmmaker Inas Halabi from Jerusalem and Lebanese multi-disciplinary artist Haig Aivazian as part of the 2020/22 Mophradat Consortium Commissions
