Rajyashri Goody

Rajyashri Goody lives and works in Pune, India.

She completed her BA in Sociology at Fergusson College in Pune in 2011, and an MA in Visual Anthropology at the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology at the University of Manchester, England in 2013.

Goody's art practice is informed by her background in the social sciences as well as her Dalit roots. Through the use of various media, including writing, ceramics, photography, video, and sculptural works made with found objects and food items, she attempts to decode and make visible instances of everyday power and resistance within Dalit communities in India.

Her group exhibitions include Revelations: Reclaiming South Asian Narratives, Harvard University, Cambridge, April 2018; Micro-Subversions Playbook, Conflictorium, Baroda, January 2018; World Next Door, Khoj International, New Delhi, December 2017; and Odds & Ends, Galleryske, Bengaluru, September 2017. Her work has also been presented at multiple literature festivals in India.

Rajyashri’s curatorial projects include the Students’ Biennale 2016 in Kochi, and Foreign Exchange at La Générale, Paris, a show involving climate justice activists and artists during COP21 in December 2015.

Goody's recent residencies took place at Khoj International, New Delhi, 2017; Rijksakademie, Amsterdam, 2017; and Asia Culture Centre, Gwangju, 2016. She is currently a visiting artist fellow at Harvard University, exploring complexities, parallels, and the significance of foodways in race and caste narratives.
