SOUTH SOUTH

SOUTH SOUTH is an online platform dedicated to art from the Global South. The Showroom collaborated to curate the Institutional Hybridity Think Tank as part of SOUTH SOUTH's inaugural 2021 event SOUTH SOUTH VEZA.

The SOUTH SOUTH platform was conceived by Liza Essers, owner of Goodman Gallery, as a response to the global pandemic, and as an ongoing curatorial initiative established by the gallery in 2015. The platform is both an online community, an anthology, an archive and a resource for artists, galleries, curators and collectors invested in the Global South.

SOUTH SOUTH’s launch event, SOUTH SOUTH VEZA, will launch on 24 February 2021 featuring a dedicated talks programme curated by The Showroom. The ‘Institutional Hybridity’ Think Tank aims to explore counter-cultural strategies and methodologies that various cultural agents around the globe – particularly in its South, or counter- cultural platforms in its North – are considering to strike a balance that is sustainable to their local environments, as well of interest globally.

SOUTH SOUTH is to host a year-round events programme that seeks to address an imbalance in the global cultural framework by providing a means to explore a de-centred art world, within a broader geopolitical context. As well as this, the platform maintains ongoing interview-based editorial work on current events and significant shows in and around the global south, as well as a community-built archive highlighting selected moments from galleries, nonprofits and museums in the Global South.
